Frequently Asked Questions

Are assessments available online?
Yes, I offer both in-person and online assessments via secure video consultation. While it is entirely your choice if sessions are online or within your home, there may be situations in which I recommend at least one home-visit for the highest possible assessment standard. I should be able to inform you of this in or following your free 15 minute consultation.
Can you help me if I don't like labels?
Yes, I am delighted to be able to offer in depth assessments and recommendations without labels. Often services can insist on labels or diagnoses despite relevant legislation and guidelines (e.g. the equality act 2010, the NHS constitution) not requiring these. I will offer support to the best of my ability to ensure that this does not pose a barrier to accessing support that my assessments indicate would be needed.
What is a neurodevelopmental assessment?
A neurodevelopmental assessment is an evaluation that examines how your brain processes information, manages attention, and responds to different situations. It involves clinical interviews, standardised questionnaires, and observational assessments to identify conditions like ADHD or autism.
Can you provide a diagnosis?
No. This service is not currently able to provide formal diagnoses following assessments.
If you are seeking a formal diagnosis, the wait for these can be joined here. It is not clear how long the waitlist will be though a minimum of three months wait is currently anticipated. The costs of these may vary during the waiting time. However, I will always do my best to be as reasonably priced as possible. Further information can be found on Together ADHD and Together Autism.
Who is eligible?
Services are for adults aged 18+ who can consent to the assessment process.
Most of my services can be offered online or via home visits within my catchment area. If a home visit is clinically recommended, I can inform you of this within your free 15-minute consultation.
For home visits, it is required that your home is psychologically safe for the adult being assessed, with a private space, with a table and two chairs available.
Can I still access services if I am not diagnosed?
In most cases, you will be able to access all relevant services and support without a diagnosis, provided your needs are fully documented and explained. For more information you may wish to view our blog regarding this topic. Exceptions to this are likely to be access to medication which usually require a formal relevant diagnosis.
How long does an assessment take?
A typical assessment takes between 3-4 hours and will be conducted over two or more sessions. This includes clinical interviews, completion of questionnaires, and standardised assessments. We allow flexibility to ensure you're comfortable throughout the process.
Can I be accompanied?
Yes. You are welcome to have a carer, family member, friend, or pet present at any time.
What happens after the assessment?
Following your assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive report detailing the findings, and personalised recommendations. We'll discuss the results with you, giving you the opportunity to make changes to your report before this is finalised. I'll also provide guidance on next steps, which might include support services, workplace or educational adjustments. Follow-up support sessions can also be booked with myself at any time.
Do you record appointments?
Yes — with your consent. Video recording ensures scoring accuracy and reliability. If you are not comfortable with this, I may not be the right provider.
Where are you based?
I am based in North Lincolnshire and offer home assessments in the surrounding areas. While many assessments can be offered online if preferred, diagnostic autism assessments require a home visit.
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you don't need a GP referral for a private assessment. You can self-refer directly through our website or contact form. However, we can work collaboratively with your GP and other healthcare professionals if you'd like us to share findings with them.
Can you prescribe medication?
No. I am not a prescriber so cannot prescribe medication. If medication is sought and indicated, I can guide you on discussing this with your GP.
How much does an assessment cost?
Assessment fees vary from just £300 to £700 depending on the type of work required. We provide transparent pricing information and during your initial enquiry can discuss payment plans if needed.
Can I use Right to Choose?
Not at this time. This service is independent and not yet part of NHS Right to Choose. You can find more information about right to choose on ADHD UK's website or the National Autistic Society's website.
